Episode 009 - Absinthe

This week's episode is all about the Green Fairy, Absinthe. For the french and bohemian method of serving Absinthe, listen to the show. As for the recipes mentioned during this episode, here are they are again:

Absinthe Frappe
1 1/2 oz Absinthe
1 tsp. simple syrup
1 oz club soda
In a chilled highball glass filled halfway with crushed ice, stir in absinthe and simple syrup. Stir vigorously while adding club soda. Keep stirring until glass is well frosted.

Death in the Afternoon
Here's a quote from Ernest Hemingway, "Pour on jigger absinthe into a champagne glass. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly."

Sazerac
In a chilled old fashioned glass, swirl 1/2 tsp Absinthe and pour out excess. Add a dash of Peychaud Bitters. Pour in 2 ounces of rye whiskey (or bourbon). Garnish with a lemon twist.
(This is the classic directions. Feel free to add all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and pour into a chilled cocktail glass if you must have your cocktails fully chilled. If I make it following the classic directions, I still have to add ice to it personally.)

Absinthe French Fizz
1 oz Absinthe
1 oz Alize Red Passion
1/2 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz sweet & sour
Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with club soda for sparkle. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry.

Absinthe B-55
In a shot glass layer Kahlua, Bailey's Irish Cream and Absinthe in that order. Down the hatch!

Ian sure this one will be bettern than the previous. I think it will be interesting since the liquor is illegal for us to have it here. So our fearless leader take sone for the time to let us know what the mystery is and shines a light on the green fairy! Then he makes her dance and make us a drink while is is ad it!

Always a good time with you! Thanks again for getting it out so quick. We love it as soon as we can get it!

Now I listened to it. It was good and I learned more about this mysterious drink. I think if i had the opportunity, I would try this crazy sounding liquor. It was very intersting how you debunked the myth about drinking it, in the fact that you have to drink so much that you would actually die from alcohol poisoning before it would happen.
