Episode 020 - Schnapps

This episode is all about Schnapps. First, I want to say hello to the wonderful ladies I met tonight at the Velvet Cantina.

Okay, this time around I mention the difference between European schnappps and American schnapps.

Here are the recipes mentioned on this show:

1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Jack Daniels
Dash Cointreau
tbs Fresh Lime Juice
Pour ingredients into a shaker 2/3 filled with ice. Shake and strain with ice into a chilled cocktail glass.

Peach Mimosa
1 part Orange Juice
1 part Peach Schnapps
4 parts Chilled Champagne
Pour ingredients into a champagne flute and garnish with a peach slice.

Fruity Fizz
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Triple Sec
Dash Grenadine
Fill 7-up or Sprite
Pour ingredients in order into a tall glass filled with cracked ice. Give a light stir.

Fill Orange Juice
Pour ingredients into a tall glass/collins glass filled with cracked ice.

Sex on the Beach

1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
Fill Orange Juice
Fill Cranberry Juice
Pour ingredients into a tall glass/collins glass filled with cracked ice.

Girl Scout Cookie

1 oz Peppermint Schnapps
Shake and strain into a double old fashioned glass filled with ice.

Mr. Martini-

You said in one of your shows that you liked lime. Well...

The cocktails.about.com article about flavored vodkas mentioned the only brand that was naturally infused and made right here in the US, Charbay brand.

I purchased their Key Lime Vodka and made this great lime cocktail (Charbay recipe):

Key Lime Kamikaze

2 oz Charbay Key Lime Vodka
3/4 oz Orange Liqeur (I used Cointreau)
3/4 oz lime juice

Shake and strain into a cocktail glass

Garnish with a lime wedge

Very good. Try one if you get a chance. I was impressed with the Charbay brand.

I actually mentioned that article in this episode (episode 20). I've been messing around with a bottle of blood orange and ruby red grapefruit. I'll have to get hold of the Key Lime next. I also want to check out their green tea vodka. That sounds very interesting. If anyone could pull that off, it would be Charbay.

Charbay actually just celebrated their 22nd anniversary. Other than their flavored vodkas, they also make a vanilla rum, pastis and an Alambic Whiskey, which goes for $329 a bottle! Yikes!

I go to Napa Valley at least once a month so I'm going to have to see if I can visit their distillery. Maybe I can get an interview! How cool would that be?
