Episode 027 - Midori

On this 27th episode we go into detail on that sweet, green, melon flavored cordial called Midori.

Here are the recipes given on this show:

The Universe (1st place winner in 1978 US Bartenders Guild Annual Competition)
1/2 oz Midori
1/2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz pistachio-flavored liqueur
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz lime juice
Pour in all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Green Eyes (Official Drink of the 1984 LA Olympic Games)
3/4 oz Midori
1 oz Rum
1/2 oz coconut cream
1/2 oz lime juice
1/2 oz pineapple juice
Pour ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice and stir well. Strain into a tall glass filled with crushed ice.

1 oz Midori
1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
Pour the ingredients into a tumbler filled with ice. Roll it by pouring it into a shaker and back into the glass.

In a tall glass filled with ice, pour in 1 oz Vodka and fill with orange juice leaving enough room to float approx. 1/2 oz midori on top.

Midori Sour
2 oz Midori
1/2 oz Cointreau (preferred) or Triple Sec
1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry in the bottom of the cocktail glass or an orange twist.

Love Junk (First Prize in the 1991 Sydney Cocktail Championship)
1 oz Midori
1 oz Peach Schnapps
Apple Juice
Pour Midori and Peach Schnapps into a tall glass filled with ice and top with the apple juice. Garnish with thinly sliced red apples.

I love your podcast. I just started listening to it today. I recently finished bartending school, and your podcast has been very helpful in increasing my knowledge.

I now have it loaded into my iPod and will be taking it along with me on my daily walks.

Thanks for putting it together.

Love the podcast. Really informative and reflects an approach to cocktails that seem to be dying. Anyway, I think a great Midori cocktail is a June Bug. It is kind of fruity but it is made like this:

.75 Midori
.75 Creme de Banana
.75 Malibu

Fill tall glass with pineapple and sweet and sour. This is a dynamite drink for people who want something fruity and punchy. Keep up the great work; can't wait to hear the next one.

Here is a Pistachio liqueur:

Swedish "Precis" has a pistachio flavoured vodka.

I have yet to find and try these.

Dumante Pistachio Liqueur is awesome! It's not just another sweet liqueur!
